Whilst the name of Tendring may not be instantly
recognisable, the port of Harwich and the resort towns of Clacton,
Frinton and Walton-on the Naze will be more familiar and will
provide an identity for this attractive part of north-east
Essex.
The access to mainland European markets provided by the port at
Harwich is largely responsible for the interest inward investors
have shown in the District. However the existence of excellent road
and rail links with the domestic markets together with the
availability of a skilled and developing labour market should not
be overlooked.
This excellent pedigree helps Tendring District Council's
Regeneration Service attract new businesses to the area. For
example, the development at Brook Farm, Clacton on Sea, has already
attracted retailers such as Tesco's, a B&Q Superstore, Pizza
Hut, Curry's and a KFC, and has created many jobs; as will the
Harwich International Port Container Terminal (Bathside Bay) which
is an exciting new development that will help to meet the need for
additional port capacity. This development is also being supported
by The Haven Gateway Partnership (www.haven-gateway.org)
The Brunel Business Centre, on the Gorse Lane Industrial Estate,
Clacton on Sea, is an exciting new Industrial and Warehouse
development for B1, B2 & B8 usage. Units will range from 1,465
sq ft - 10,000 sq ft and will be available in 2007.
Proof of other recent successful developments can be seen at the
new 55,000sq ft Harwich Gateway Retail Park, which is now completed
and fully let with occupiers such as Focus DIY, Argos, CarpetRight,
Brantano Footwear, Peacocks and Choices Video.
Again in Harwich, The Stanton Euro-Park already attracted the
national Hotel Chain Whitbread plc, who opened their 45 bedroom
Premier Travel Inn and the 'Mayflower' Brewers Fayre in 2006 and
next door the popular Lidl store can also be found.
