Stop Smoking - Go Smokefree

Stop smoking

Get advice on stopping smoking and where to find help and support. Go smokefree to improve your health and appearance - save lots of money too.

Smoking makes more people in the UK ill and causes more early deaths (114,000 people in the UK every year) than anything else.

One of the best things you could do in your life is make a complete break from smoking. Millions of people in Britain have already gone smokefree and you can too.

Free Help and Support

There is lots of free advice and support available to help you stop smoking.

Evidence shows that getting professional help quadruples your chances of stopping smoking for good. Visit the NHS Smokefree website for information on the support they offer.

You may have heard about the new treatment available to help people to stop smoking. It is called Champix and it works by blocking the nicotine receptors, taking away the urge to smoke. You will not feel the need to smoke and if you do, it won't do anything for you. You would take the tablet for 8-14 days before you stop smoking and be on the treatment for 12 weeks.

The NHS PCT Stop Smoking Service now offers nicotine replacement therapy, Zyban and Champix to help you stop smoking and you are FOUR TIMES more likely to quit smoking with the NHS than by trying alone. For more details or to book an appointment, please call on 01206 545134.

You can also call the national NHS Smoking Helpline on 0800 169 0 169. Specialist advisers are available everyday from 7am to 11pm.

Yourfirststop.org also offer a stop smoking service including specialist stop smoking support information and an 'ask the pharmacist' email service where you can submit your quitting cigarettes questions.
