Health and Safety

Tendring District Council's Health and Safety team carry out regular inspections of local businesses and business premises to ensure that safe and healthy working conditions are provided for all employees and visitors.

Local authorities are generally responsible for premises such as offices, shops and residential homes, whereas factories, industrial premises, nursing homes, farms, hospitals and schools and the movement of dangerous goods and substances fall under the jurisdiction of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

For more information on the HSE visit their website or contact them on the HSE Infoline - 0845 345 0055, all calls are treated in the strictest confidence and you do not have to give your name.

Tendring produces a Section 18 Guidance Service Plan. The plan sets out how the Authority meets its statutory duty to undertake health and safety enforcement. The plan describes the make up of premises enforced within the district, the staff resources to undertake the work and how the process of enforcement is undertaken.

The Health and Safety team are also responsible for enforcing the Smokefree legislation in Tendring, visit the Smokefree Tendring pages for more information including where to get help with giving up smoking.
